It’s time to cozy up to Transparency & Accountability

It's not just for "them." Starting March 30th, you can deepen it for yourself too. Let's do this together--in community.

When announcing any offering, I often try to think of a new way of presenting it. Not to booby-trap anyone into taking a Mindfulness class, but perhaps seeing the value from a slightly different perspective. I’m certainly not a fan of setting the marketing hook in any disingenuous or hard sell way, but rather in the way a fly fisher woman (like myself) presents her fly at just the perfect moment to the fish.

Flash, strike, game on!

So what does transparency and accountability have to do with fly fishing you ask?

(… hang on a minute)

In today’s world what we all want, from our leaders to our lovers and everywhere in between, is for people to be up-front, real, and transparent—in what they say and what they do. Secondly, we want them to be accountable. To hold true to what they said they would do, or not do, to take the consequences if they mess it up and if possible to apologize for having done so. (I know the last one is the ‘cherry on top,’ a day catching wild rainbow trout that concludes with a beer and a hot tub!)

So, if we demand accountability and transparency from everyone around us, what about us? Do we live by these standards for ourselves?

What does personal transparency even look like? How do we know when we have it and when we don’t?

It doesn’t look like this:

  • when we choose to withhold our messy feelings from our partners or spouse, thinking, “what good will it do anyway” and instead add another shot of vodka to our evening cocktail?

  • when we avoid telling our kids why we’re never in the same room with their father anymore, thinking they’ve already figured it out and just don’t need to know.

  • when we want to say “no” but say yes, every time our boss asks us to work late or take an extra shift. (and it’s not about the $)

  • when asked “how are you doing” by someone who really cares, we default to “I’m fine” even though our belly aches, our thoughts are always racing and we can’t remember the last time we had a meaningful laugh or hug.

Equally so, have we been accountable to ourselves, to our values, or our goals and visions…this is what it could look like:

  • when our bodies ache or scream to stop, we do.

  • NOT stuffing or stockpiling grief, disappointment and rage, but finding healthy outlets to feel.

  • booking regular time for ourselves to discharge the challenges of life with a good friend, therapist, or quiet time outside.

  • NOT making your needs last in your family, or relationship, even though you were taught this is just what women do (if you are a woman).

  • taking your dream to sing, write, or be on stage as seriously as you take your 9 to 5 job. (or anything that you dream or desire for that matter!)

The intention isn’t about perfection but about widening the zone for being accountable and transparent with ourselves, for ourselves.

So here’s my fly pattern: (my recipe for attracting that fish and perhaps for motivating you to join us!)

  • You’re ready to break through the ‘same old’ inner narratives, stress habits, bad habits, negativity and overwhelm.

  • You’re on-board with nervous system regulation and body-mind-heart connectivity, but NOW you want to know what it feels like for yourself!

  • You’re ready to step up your stress management game and learn new ways to feel well and be well.

  • You’ve realized YOU are the only precious commodity of your life—and when you are well, you are resourced and ready for all that comes.

Because this is exactly what you will gain when you say YES to 27-hours of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Course! (No not a promise, but a probable outcome! I’m the guide, you cast the fly.)
